Jack Bauer
27 August 2010 18:25 | CTU, Glasgow
Jack Bauer doesn't need an invitation, or a trial for that matter. He opens the batting and the bowling and wicket keeps too when he can be bothered.

..........Cricketer, all the match results submitted to the website have been posted online. I understand, however, that West of Scotland beat Glasgow Accies - but I have not yet received a formal match return.

I think that the Junior Academy selection policy is particularily "pathetic", as there are very good players playing for there clubs who make runs and take wickets, but are left on the sidelines as other players who can't buy a run get given trials and be selected for final squads, favouritism me'thinks.

Hi GP, your message is encouraging one and I do hope the things go in this way. But question arises whether talented players at clubs who are not part of academy squads will be given atleast trial for their representative age groups at national level because my experience is that they only get nominations from academies and thats all.

Now would be a good time as any to intimate to my fellow readers, who have raised the spectre of disappointment in the choices for 2010 players made for the various age groups of representative cricket in the Western district.
I believe the opportunity has manifested itself, whereby the various clubs of the region should start to engage in the development and investment of their own performance squads and not come to depend so intrinsically on the regional academy to provide the emphasis.
There are a number of clubs who have both senior and overseas players including the help of specialised overseas international coaches who grace their club itineraries, I see this as an opportunity to enlist these persons into coaching roles to produce star players of the future for the national sides and not the other way round whereby the national association through its own incentives and academy process are having to try and produce star players of the future to represent the national sides and to be used sparingly as the gateway.
Again the setups of the clubs own performance academies, should go someway to producing those stars of batsmen and bowlers who are able to make thousands of runs in a season and take a haul of wickets playing at the various levels within the district system, this would then go a long way to see these players being fast tracked into the national sides without having to grace academy levels and structures and thus saving the need, for further recourse and complaint as to the why’s and why not’s.
