West District defeat Tayside & Fife [posted 15/08/10] West District Under 12 Team Manager Tim Hart has filed a short report on Sunday's match at McKane Park, Dunfermline, against Tayside & Fife Under 12s. Tim writes: "Tayside & Fife Under 12s welcomed the West District Under 12 team to Dunfermline for a 35 overs per side friendly. Upon losing the toss skipper Christopher McBride (Dumfries CC) was invited to have a bat. Overall the bowling on display from Tayside & Fife was very good and accurate. Of the top five, only Humza Sabri (Drumpellier CC) made any impression on the bowling with a hard fought 25 as 39 for 3 off 20 overs became 62 for 6 off 24 overs. But Clydesdale CC duo Owain Taylor (11) and Ross Duckett (12) started the fightback and Cameron Horn (Hillhead CC) with 22 not out took the attack to the opposition. Adam Gordon (Ayr CC) also got in on the act, taking 10 off three balls in the final over and a great recovery left the West District 126 for 9 off their 35 overs. In reply the early West District bowling mirrored that of Tayside & Fife - accurate. And both Gordon and Ross Bain (Clydesdale CC) got the wickets they deserved. First change saw Sabri replaced Bain,.....and subsequently destroyed the Tayside & Fife middle order. 5-2-5-4 were his figures, including the key wickets of opener Robertson and star man Carnegie. With Sabri bowled out McBride cleverly replaced pace with,.....pace and Adil Ghaffar (Hillhead CC) also found success with 2 for 7, both thanks to catches from Ayr CC’s wicket keeper Matthew Cooper. Horn then picked up a wicket with his legspin before Taylor started and finished his spell (and the game) by clean bowling Waller to finish with the perfect figures of 0.1-0-0-1! Tayside & Fife 69 all out. It was a great win and a great team performance. The effort with the bat in the last ten overs was phenomenal, and that effort carried over into the bowling display, which was backed up by good fielding - most notably two fantastic diving catches from Jake Johnstone (Ayr CC) at backward point."

West District Under 12s versus Cumbria Under 11s [posted 20/05/10] West District Under 12 Coach Drew Pryde has filed a short report on Wednesday's match at Wigton against Cumbria Under 11s. Drew writes "We travelled down to Wigton outside Carlisle in the rain. It was dry on arrival after a cross country jaunt. West lost the toss and were put into bat on a lively wicket. The strong cross wind assisted Cumbria's opening bowlers who made in-roads into the West line-up. Drumpellier CC's Humza Sabri struck three fine 4s before beinbg bowled. Only a swashbuckling 27 from Ross Duckett of Clydesdale CC saved West's blushes. The innings closed on 66 all out in only fifteen of the alloted 35 overs. Unfortunately, the conditions then eased for the Cumbria batsmen. But a double wicket maiden from Ayr CC's Adam Gordon followed by two wickets from Humza Sabri set Cumbria back on their heels. Some tight bowling and good fielding led to Cumbria being 48 for 6 before three quick 4s finshed the game. Best bowling: Humza Sabri 2 for 10 in three overs; Adam Gordon 2 for 12 in three overs. As the whole match took only 35 overs, we played a 20/20. Again West were asked to bat first and did much better, finishing on 75 for 9 in their allotted overs. Ayr CC's Matthew Cooper top-scored at the top of the order with 18, and club-mate Jake Johnstone chipped in with 13. Cumbria got off to a bad start as Adam Gordon and yet another Ayr CC player, Shujaa Khan, took two quick wickets each. However, the Cumbria middle order consolidated, putting on 60 for the fifth wicket. A run out and two more wickets then led to tight finish. Unfortunately slack fielding and dropped catches cost the West boys, eventually losing to an over-throw on the second last ball. Overall, the lads enjoyed the experience, hopefully learning in the process." The scorecard of the game will be online as soon as it's available.
West District Under 12s lose out to Tayside & Fife Under 12s [posted 18/05/10] West District Under 12 Team Manager Tim Hart has filed a short report on Sunday's match at Meikleriggs against Tayside & Fife Under 12s. Tim writes "A really good game between two very well matched teams! Skipper Chris McBride of Dumfries CC and Clydesdale CC's Rafiq Sher batted very well early on, putting on 50 for the first wicket. With Rafiq run out for 24, Chris took on the role of anchoring the innings and did so to great effect. Poloc CC's Lewis James (17) and Owain Taylor of Clydesdale CC (12*) provided good support, with the West District Under 12 team scoring 132 from their 35 overs – despite good spells from Doig and Hogarth. In reply Ayr CC's Shujaa Khan made the early breakthrough and club-mate Lloyd Jefferson was unlucky not to hold onto a great effort at a diving catch. Tayside & Fife batters three, four and five (Robertson, Birrell and 'keeper Carnegie) batted very well, scoring 37, 21 and 45 respectively. In the end the West boys couldn’t quite make as many regular breakthroughs as they needed to put their visitors under any real pressure. Shujaa was the pick of the bowlers with 5-2-7-2 and Cameron Horn of Hillhead CC held onto a skied catch..…made all the more difficult when one of his teammates ran into him and knocked him over in the process of taking the catch! It was a good game, played in a great spirit and special praise must go to Duncan Patterson (of Ferguslie CC) for allowing the side to use Meikleriggs, to the umpires for standing in the match and to the Ferguslie groundstaff and members for providing a good pitch, quick outfield and a quite superb tea!" The scorecard of the game is online now.

First news of West District Under 12s season opener [posted 27/04/10] Reports from Titwood late on Tuesday evening spoke of the season opening fixture for the West District Under 12 side resulting in a tie! 93 played 93. In his match report Team Manager Tim Hart writes "Christopher McBride won the toss for the re-formed West District Under 12 team and elected to bat at a cloudy Titwood. And the skipper led from the front with a superb 31 (retired) - the innings highlighted by two 4s and two 6s. He was given support by Humza Sabri (11) and Lloyd Jefferson (13) before good batting from Lewis James (11*) and Adil Ghaffar (10*) added 29 off the last five overs. The star with the ball for Clydesdale was Ross Bain, who finished with 3-0-8-2 and picked up the wickets of Sabri and Matthew Cooper. West District Under 12s 97 for 3 off their 20 overs. The first over of the reply saw Adil Ghaffar bowl a maiden, before Clydesdale's Calum Stout got stuck into the bowling. The first wicket fell when Rafiq Sher was well caught by skipper McBride at mid on, off the bowling of Shujaa Khan - 24 for 1. With the score on 38 Khan struck again, clean bowling Stout for 29. Alex Ewing and Cameron Horn picked up wickets too and with Clydesdale's top scorer, and Western Cricket Academy Under 14 Player, Andrew Hume having to retire for a well-made 30 with the score on 86 for 4 off 15 overs, Clydesdale looked firm favourites. After 18 overs, the score was 96 for 4. What no-one could have predicted was that Adil and Shujaa would then bowl eleven dot balls in a row! One ball, 2 to win. The last ball produced a big swing and miss – with Owain Taylor's head-first dive just beating the wicket-keeper's throw and the game finishing as a tie! It was a good start for the Under 12 team. Everyone either batted or bowled, the fielding was generally very good and the squad look to be establishing a good team spirit as the different personalities begin to gel into a cohesive unit." The scorecard of the game is online now.
