Monday night results [posted 26/07/10] Tonight's junior league results are online. The weather again took its toll, it would appear, on the league fixture card this evening, with a number of scheduled matches cancelled. Among those was Drumpellier CC Under 13s home match with Clydesdale CC. One match completed in that league was, however, the match at Glenpark where Greenock CC Under 13s beat Ferguslie CC. 62 all out batting first was never likely to be enough for the visitors and so it proved as Greenock CC reached their target for the loss of only one wicket, Neil Flack (30 retired) and Reece Armstrong (25 not out) top-scoring for their side. In the Under 18 league Clydesdale CC beat Glasgow Accies CC at Titwood, 144 for 6 being 37 too many for the visitors to chase. Arthur Johnson top-scored with 44 for Clydesdale CC, for who Shreyas Chitnis and Suhaib Siddiqui each got a "3-for"s.
Coaching courses coming up [posted 26/07/10] Cricket Scotland has released details of some upcoming coaching courses. The courses and dates are as follows: Upcoming Coach Courses, post-season 2010
Friday night results [posted 23/07/10] Tonight's junior league results are online. Two Under 11 and two Under 15 results were notified to the website on Friday evening. Clydesdale CC's Under 11s and Under 15s both recorded victories over Prestwick CC, whilst Poloc CC recorded an Under 15 win over Ayr CC at Shawholm, but their Under 11s lost to Ferguslie CC at Meikleriggs. Top individual performance on the evening in the results in to date was Finlay Walker's match-winning display for Clydesdale CC Under 15s. Batting first he top-scored with an unbeaten 82 before then taking a "3-for" as Prestwick lost seven wickets in their run-chase. Ayr CC's Luke Speirs ran Walker close however, scoring an unbeaten 54 for his side before then recording a "5-for" as Ayr CC suffered a last-over defeat to Poloc CC.
The Lord's Taverners Inter-City competition [posted 22/07/10] Although not strictly speaking a west district cricket event, The Lord's Taverners Inter-City competition has involved - as usual - a number of young players from the district, more specifically from Glasgow. The first match saw Glasgow Under 13s take on Edinburgh Under 13s in late June at Poloc CC's Shawholm ground. Edinburgh ran our easy winners in this match, batting first and setting Glasgow 202 to win having posted 201 for 2 in their 30 overs. In reply Glasgow's innings never really got started with only four batters getting to double figures and the side losing eight wickets as they slumped to a 94-run defeat. The second match in the tri-series featured a "road trip", Glasgow travelling to Durham on Sunday the 18th of July. Traditionally the harder of the two fixtures, against English opposition, the match saw Glasgow spring a surprise on their hosts, running out winners by 14 runs. Batting first Glasgow posted 171 for 6, with Poloc CC's Saif Sajjad top-scoring with 69 and Nick Pyne of Drumpellier CC making 30 in an opening partnership of 102 in twenty overs. Cameos from Poloc CC's Elliott Rousen and Hasan Ahmad, and Clydesdale CC's Ilan Selby then helped push the total to a defendable level. Selby then took two wickets in the Durham reply, a return by matched by Owan Taylor of Clydesdale CC who returned the highly impressive figures of 5-0-17-2. A really good win for Glasgow. The remaining game between Edinburgh and Durham will now decide which city comes out on top.
Friday night results [posted 16/07/10] Tonight's junior league results are online. Wet weather however was, again, the real winner in the west tonight with very matches taking place. One game that did get played was at New Cambusdoon where Ayr CC Under 15s defeated local rivals Prestwick CC. The home side reached their target of 83 without losing a wicket, Luke Speirs (47 not out) and Ross McKelvie (33 not out) being the openers who batted through. For the visitors from the Henry Thow Oval, Chris Scott top-scored with 27. This win opens up the Under 15 title race with Prestwick CC the only unbeaten side in that league before tonight's loss. In the Under 11 league, a match was played at Titwood where home side Clydesdale CC defeated Drumpellier CC.
League tables [posted 13/07/10] WDJCU Secretary Jim Young has supplied updated league tables. These are online now.
Monday night results [posted 12/07/10] It would appear that weather and other factors were the only winners in this evening's league matches. Kelburne CC Under 18s match with Cluydesdale Under 18s was postponed, whilst the match between Prestwick CC and Poloc CC didn't take place. These results, for what they're worth, can be found online here. At the time of posting there was no news from either of the other two scheduled Under 18 Premier Division matches at New Cambusdoon and Torrance House respectively. Likewise in the First Division where no match results have yet been submitted from the evening's scheduled fixtures. Friday night results [posted 09/07/10] Tonight's Under 11 league results are online. With wet weather affecting the district it was no surprise some matches didn't survive, e.g. Uddingston CC hosting Glasgow Accies CC at Bothwell Castle Policies. But there were matches played, and results uploaded so far tell of wins for Clydesdale CC, Poloc CC and West of Scotland CC. The defeated sides on the night being, respectively, Hillhead CC, Ayr CC and Weirs CC. The Weirs CC versus West of Scotland CC result was, in fact, a pre-match concession by the former as they fielded two over-age players. At Titwood, it was extras that dominated with 75 wides being bowled! And to complete a slightly unusual trio of determining factors for wins, at New Cambusdoon Ayr CC conceded no fewer than fourteen wickets in losing to Poloc CC.
Friday evening also saw the cancellation of Hillhead CC Under 15s' hosting of Clydesdale CC at Hughenden.
Monday night results [posted 05/07/10] This evening's league match results can be found online here. In the Under 13 league Clydesdale CC ran out winners in their match against Ferguslie CC at Titwood, Calum Stout top-scoring with 30 retired in Clydesdale CC's total of 99 for 3. In their reply, Ferguslie CC's 92 for 5 owed much to two retirals: Spence and Ahmed both getting to 30. In the Under 18 league Premier Division there were wins for Ayer CC, Clydesdale CC and Poloc CC over Glasgow Accies CC, East Kilbride CC (who conceded) and West of Scotland CC. Ayr CC's 44-run win saw McClymont score 29 of his side's 100 for 8, before taking 3 for 8 as Glasgow Accies CC were dismissed for just 56. At Hamilton Crescent meanwhile Bilal Chaudhry and Haris Khan were the star men as Poloc CC defeated West of Scotland CC. Chaudhry (52) and Khan (33) top-scored in the visitors' innings before bowling an opening spell of 8-3-24-3 to set up their side's win. Friday night results [posted 02/07/10] Only one result from this evening's league matches was submitted online by 11pm, here. As a result the Under 11 match between Ayr CC and Weirs CC grabs all the headlines. And it was a match worthy of top-billing, coming down to the last over which saw Ayr CC's Lloyd Jefferson grab the three wickets his side needed for the victory. Jefferson's wickets - all bowled - gave him figures of 4-3-2-3!

National Kwik Cricket festival [posted 29/06/10] West Community Development Manager, Iain Stewart, tells us that Neil Cameron - who is co-ordinating the event this year - has annouced that the National Kwik Cricket Festival day will be at Doo'cot Park, Perth, on Saturday the 11th of September 2010. Friday night results [posted 25/06/10] Results from this evening's league matches are online, here. The night's early results featured a couple of rare events: almost unbelievably the third tied match in the junior leagues in eleven days, and an Under 11 bowler taking four wickets in four balls. The third tie in less than a fortnight came in the Glasgow Accies CC versus Drumpellier CC Under 11 match at New Anniesland. 80 for 8 was both teams' score. This is, almost as unbelievably, the Coatbridge club's second tie of the season in the WDJCU. The young bowler taking four wickets in four balls was 9 year old Kess Sajjad of Poloc CC in the Shawholm side's win at Bothwell Castle Policies against Uddingston. Other results in so far report West of Scotland CC's Under 15s' win over Renfrew CC. And in the Under 11 league Renfrew CC again lost out to West of Scotland CC, Prestwick CC beat East Kilbride CC at Torrance House, Greenock CC defeated Clydesdale CC, and Hillhead CC came out on top against Weirs CC. There were also other impressive individual performances on the night: Greenock CC's Stefan Armstrong took a "5-for", West of Scotland CCs Guy, Weirs CC's Jack Greenwood and Renfrew CC's Osama "4-fors". Monday night results [posted 21/06/10] After the excitement of the tie in last Monday's Under 13 league matches, that age-group again threw up another cliff-hanger of a match. At Hughenden, Hillhead CC and Poloc CC fought out another tied match - ths time 77 for 9 was the score both sides recorded. Elsewhere, from results in at the time of publication, there were wins for Ayr CC and Poloc CC respectively in the Under 18 league - wins over, again respectively, Kelburne CC and Clydesdale CC. In the Under 13 matches, in addition to the tie at Hughenden, there was a win for Drumpellier CC over Glasgow Accies CC. Individual performances of merit include Craig Young of Poloc CC's 64 in the Under 18 win over Clydesdale CC, Ayr CC's Donald Swindley's 47, and teammate Calum McLaughlin's 46. "3-fors" were also notched up by Kelburne CC's Ross Arbuckle, Ayr CC's Ross Thorburn and Drumpellier CC's Russell. Results from this evening's league matches are online, here.
Friday night results [posted 18/06/10] Results from this evening's league matches are online, here. The early match returns from tonight's junior league matches report Under 11 wins for West of Scotland CC, Clydesdale CC and Poloc CC. Clydesdale CC Under 11's Zain Ashraf scored 39, the top score in the Under 11 results submitted thus far. He then completed a man of the match performance by taking a "4-for", a feat Lewis Macdonald of Poloc CC matched in the Shawholm side's home win over East Kilbride CC. There were also Under 11 league "3-fors" for Ashven (East Kilbride CC), Angus Guy (West of Scotland CC). In the Under 15 league another West of Scotland CC bowler recorded a "3-for", Ata taking for 3 for 22. Elliott Rousen also took three wickets in his Poloc CC side's win against Kelburne CC at Whitehaugh. Ata scored 42 for West of Scotland CC, and Saif Sajjad made 31 not out for Poloc CC Under 15s.
Third Frank Smith Trophy semi-finalist known [posted 17/06/10] West of Scotland CC booked a place in the semi-final of the 2010 Frank Smith Trophy by beating Kelburne CC at Hamilton Crescent. In the absence of a formal match return it is understood the visitor's reply to West of Scotland CC's 189 finished almost 90 runs short. West of Scotland CC now take on Poloc CC in the semi-final. The other half of the draw sees Ayr CC await the winner of the quarter-final between Clydesdale CC and Glasgow Accies CC.
Tie [posted 16/06/10] To encourage prompt match returns being submitted the website deliberately doesn't comment on results sent in a day or two "late". But an exception to this rule is the tie between Greenock CC and Drumpellier CC on Monday evening in the Under 13 league. Batting first, the Glenpark side posted 112 for 6 with Reece Armstrong top-scoring with 21. Then, as Drumpellier CC looked like winning the match at 111 for 5 at the start of the final over, Greenock CC's Paul Dorrian took two wickets for the loss of just a single run in the last six balls to force the tie. As was stated in the "Comments" section of the online return: great, exciting game!
Monday night results [posted 14/06/10] Another Monday night's Under 13 and Under 18 league action's results point to wins in the Under 13 league for Ferguslie CC and Ayr CC. Whilst in the two Under 18 divisions, there were wins for Ayr CC , Poloc CC and Glasgow Accies CC. At the Henry Thow Oval in Prestwick, Sam Haggo's "3-for" wasn't enough to prevent visitors Glasgow Accies CC from winning by five wickets thanks in the main to Ganapathi's 37 and Revie's 35 not out. The two's combined 72 runs coming from only 63 balls. At Whitehaugh Poloc CC made short work of defending 116 for 9 as they dismissed Kelburne CC for just 25, Haris Khan taking four wickets, Bilal Chaudhry three. In the Poloc CC innings Aamir Kayani had top-scored with 30. Ayr CC's convincing win over East Kilbride CC saw Neil Smith record a half century, with Scott McElnea making 39 not out, whilst Andrew Kampman made 33 for the Torrance House club. In the Under 13 age-group league matches there were batting retirements for Ahmed of Ferguslie CC, Poloc CC's Ross Armour, and Sean McCrone of Ayr CC. There were also "3-fors" or better for Under 13s Christian Coulling (Ayr CC), Siddique (Hillhead CC), and Spence (Ferguslie CC). Results from this evening's league matches are online, here.

Monday night results [posted 07/06/10] More Under 13 and Under 18 league matches were played on Monday night. In the Under 13 competition, results in show wins for Clydesdale CC and Ayr CC, over Poloc CC and West of Scotland CC respectively. New website [posted 09/11/09] The Union has launched its new website. Incorporating the activities of the Western Cricket Academy, it's hoped the new site will represent a one-stop-shop for everyone interested in junior cricket here in the west. Thanks are due to website developer Flame Multimedia for its superb support in getting the new site up-and-running. The site will, we hope, be easier to update and incorporates for the first time a message board for people to leave their comments in. A quick word on this though, right at start: if the board attracts unacceptable comments it will simply be switched off - everyone's been warned!
