Clydesdale CC Under 18s win Frank Smith Trophy [posted 04/09/10]

The Clydesdale Bank sponsored Frank Smith Trophy was won by Clydesdale CC Under 18s at Shawholm on Saturday.  Chasing 120 to win to defeat the others finalists West of Scotland CC, the Titwood side won when Shreyas Chitnis pulled Gavin Smith through mid-on for a 4 to see his side home.  Earlier Keshav Kanabar had bowled a tight opening spell to restrict West of Scotland CC's openers, Anjun Luthra and Andrew Umeed, and Chitnis had chipped in with 3 for 27, as 119 was posted as the first innings total.  In reply, the Clydesdale CC openers, Sam Page and Paddy Barbour, made steady progress, careful not to lose early wickets.  Skipper Barbour would eventually top-score with 53, but was out a few runs short of the target as his side seemed to have a dose of the jitters as the finish line appeared.  This gave the healthy crowd a thrilling and tense finish, Clydesdale CC only winning on the second last ball of the last over bowled by Smith.  Congratulations to Paddy Barbour and his team, and Coach Gary Page.
